Fern Pauline (Wallace) Gillispie was born November 5, 1923 on a farm outside of Hasting, OK to J.O. "Oll" and Rosie (Nipper) Wallace and went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 3, 2012 at Waurika, OK at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 29 days. She graduated from Temple High School in 1941, helping her parents on the farm as a young girl growing up. She married Charles Miller Gillispie, Jr. on May 6, 1942 in Walters, OK and while J.R. was in the Army during WWII, she stayed on the farm with her parents. When he returned home from the service they moved to Walters and Fern worked for Claiborne's Department Store for 12 years. To the union their only child was born on January 30, 1944, Charles Oliver Gillispie who lived only a few hours before he passed from this earth. Fern and J.R. moved to Houston, TX in 1960 and then in 1963 they moved to Conroe, TX and lived there for 8 years before moving back to Hastings in 1971. Fern was a lifelong Baptist and had been a member of the Hastings Baptist Church Since March 4, 1981, where she was a Sunday School teacher for numerous years. She was known for making the best Peanut Brittle in the country, and during the holidays she would be busy making candy for her neighbors and church family each year. She also loved flowers and made sure the church always had a special bouquet for every holiday. Fern is survived by several nieces, Sharon Brown of Choctaw, OK, Helen McNew of Dennison, TX, Joy Bond of Cowarts, AL; and several nephews, Dick Buse of Carnation, WA, Carl Buse of Indio, CA, Walter Gillispie of Edmond, OK, Paul Taylor of Arkansas, Larry Taylor of Dallas; a great nephew, Shannon Brown of Edmond, OK and his children, Dakota, Alexa, Breanna and Hunter Brown; a special friend, Nancy White of Houston, TX; her church family of Hasting Baptist Church; and many good neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.R.; son, Charles Oliver; her parents; and 2 sisters, Margaret Buse and Cordie Brown.
