Clarabell (Claiborne) Brown was born to Robert B. and Mamie S. (Wells) Claiborne in Walters, OK on May 25, 1917 and departed this life in Temple, OK on December 26, 2011 at the age of 94 years, 7 months and 1 day. Clarabell attended South Mountain View rural school in Cotton County to the eighth grade, and graduated from Walters High School in 1934. Following graduation from Cameron College and Central State Teachers College, she taught at Valley View, Randlett and Walters Public schools. After a number of years teaching, she began working for Cotton County D.H.S retiring after 26 years of service. She married Lois Elvin Brown, October 24, 1942 in Altus, OK and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1995. She was a lifelong member of Walters First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, belonged to the Cheerful Workers Extension Club, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for sixty-five years. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her trips to Branson, MO, Ft. Washita July 4th celebration and never missed the Lawrence Welk Show. She loved to play dominoes, did not like to lose and was very tough to beat. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kay and Bobby Preston, Lawton, Karen and John Hooker, Walters; five grandchildren and their spouses, Amy and David Roberts, Lori and Alan Sweetin, Sheri and Kevin Davis all of Walters, Scott and Monique Preston, Lawton, Gary and Misti Hooker of Norman; nine great grandchildren, Kari and Katy Roberts, Cole and Lynnlee Sweetin, Zane and Jolie Davis, all of Walters, Cheriah Preston, Lawton, Emily and Luke Hooker, Norman; She also leaves behing many friends in Walters, Temple Manor Nursing Home and The Village on Lee Retirement Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and their wives, Ray and Lucille Claiborne and Fred and Pauline Claiborne.
