Frances Helen (Simmons) Cowles was born to Robert Hendricks and Charity Ethel (Wylder) Simmons on November 29, 1916 at Walters and departed this life in Temple, OK on September 26, 2011, at the age of 94 years, 9 months and 28 days. Frances grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1934. She moved to California as a young lady and eventually received her teaching degree, beginning her teaching career at a military academy. She married Dolph Sylvester Cowles on May 6, 1939 at Riverside, CA. They made their home at Long Beach and later Lancaster where Frances taught school for many years. They made a move to the desert, but eventually settled back in Walters in 1992. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, collecting dolls and reading the Bible. Frances was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Walters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dolph on September 6, 2000; her niece Marie Thomas; 8 brothers and sisters, William Francis Simmons, Eva Simmons Waldren, Ruth Simmons Mooney, Nina Simmons Brumfield, Robert H. Simmons, Fred Roy Simmons, Lucille Simmons Payne, Ralph G. Simmons. Survivors include her brother, Curtis J. Simmons of Hammond, LA; special nieces and nephew, Mary Jo Glaser of Oxford, NJ, Patricia Zachary of Walters and Jack A. Simmons of Walters; many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews that adored and loved her.
