Richard Lynn "Dick" Speir was born to Joseph Vernon and Bivin Inez (Cooper) Speir at Grandfield, OK on August 31, 1941 at and departed this life at Devol, OK, July 24, 2011, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 24 days. Richard grew up in Grandfield attending Devol and Grandfield schools. While in Grandfield High School Richard played Basketball, ran Track and played Baseball each for 4 years. He also played football for four years participating and winning All Conference 3 years, All Area 2 years, and All State 1 year. He was honored as Back of the Year his senior year. Richard also participated in Future Farmers of America for two years and Key Club for one year. Richard worked as a maintenance mechanic retiring from the United States Navy after serving 20 years. At the time of his death he was married to Teresa (Gallagher) McCombs Speir and they made their home south of Devol. Richard's memberships include the Veterans of Foreign Wars, lifetime membership in the Quarter Horse Association, lifetime membership in the Quarab Horse Association, and a former member of the Fleet Reserve. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Biven Inez Speir; and a sister Patsy White. Survivors include: his wife Teresa Lynn Speir of the home; 2 sisters, Peggy Smith of Henrietta, OK and Rita Speir of Devol, OK; 2 daughters, Pamela Speir Allen of Newalla, OK and Amanda McCombs of Devol; 2 sons, Chris McCombs of Duncan, OK and Heath Kenyon of Grandfield; 4 grandchildren, Charlescie J. Greenway of Newalla, Joshua L. Greenway of Las Vegas, BreAnn C. Allen of Garden Valley, TX and Cayden W. McCombs of Duncan; other relatives and many friends.
