Thomas Ray "Tom" Newman was born to Lonzo Thomas and Edna Lorene (Jennings) Newman on December 18, 1934, at Portales, NM and departed this life at his home near Randlett, OK, on May 12, 2011, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 24 days. Tom grew up around Morton and Tulia, Texas. He entered the U.S. Army, serving his country honorably during the Korean War. On June 30, 1956 he married Edith Presilla Yerby at Lawton, OK. They moved to Las Vegas in 1961 where he worked for 38 years as an operating engineer with Local Union 501. In 1972 they bought some land east of Randlett where they eventually made their home in 1994. He had enjoyed coaching basketball and baseball, watching T.V., tinkering on cars, off-road racing, and especially loved spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister and 4 brothers; and his son, Eddie Macy Newman. Survivors include his wife Edith of the home; 4 sons, Thomas Jon Newman and wife Sherry of Las Vegas, NV, William R. Newman of Randlett, OK, Watson A. Newman and wife Stephanie of Rush Springs, OK, and Jake Newman of Randlett; 3 daughters, Shone Lynn Maruffo of Las Vegas, Chanda J. Newman of Randlett, Misty E. Jackson and husband David of Washington, UT; 28 grandchildren, Marissa Newman, Jean Kirk, Shasta Newman, Jon M. Newman, Irene, Thomas, Zachary, Synamen, Eddie, Jason, Chrystan, Stephen, Ryan, Rebekah, William, Thomas, Luis Maruffo, Angelina Hansen, Mack, Meranda, Tessa, Wyatt, Sergio Maruffo, Melvina Goodman, Justin Goodman, Priscilla Jackson, Alex Jackson, Andrew Jackson; 10 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
