Marie Thonton Zachary was born to William Virgil and Ethel (Foster) Thonton at Charlie, TX, on April 19, 1923 and departed this life at Temple, Oklahoma, on April 8, 2011, at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 20 days. Marie came to Cotton County at the age of two to live with her grandmother Ruanna J. Foster and her uncle Dick Foster. She grew up southwest of Temple in the South Rose Valley area where she attended school and eventually graduated from Temple High School. She married James Ray Zachary on June 30, 1947 at Wichita Falls, TX, making their home in the Union Valley Community where they were engaged in farming and ranching. Mrs. Zachary was an active member of Union Valley Baptist Church at Cookietown for many years serving as secretary/treasurer, teaching Sunday school and was a deacon's wife. She enjoyed baking cakes and making home cooked meals. She loved traveling, reading, drawing, telling Bible stories, sewing clothes for the boys, gardening and canning. She also enjoyed visiting relatives and spending time with the grandkids and great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; a son, Larry Duane Zachary; 2 sisters, Lorene Smith and Ruby Davis; 3 brothers, Virgil, Elmer and Carlton Thonton. Survivors include 3 sons, James David Zachary of Randlett, OK, Garry Wayne Zachary and wife Diane of Lawton, OK, Stanley Ray Zachary and wife Beverly of Lake Charles, LA; a brother, Burley Campbell and wife Janet of Charlie, TX; a sister Helen Lewis of Amarillo, TX; a sister-in-law, Cora Lee Thonton of Petrolia, TX; 6 grandchildren and spouses, Audra Martin and Paul of Lawton, OK, Josey Zachary of Herndon, VA, Monty Zachary of Lawton, Tyler, Philip and Rachel Zachary all of Lake Charles, LA; 2 great grandchildren, Zoe and Ezra Martin of Lawton; other relatives and many friends.
