Glen Dixon Smith was born October 5, 1947, at Duncan, OK and departed this life at his home in Walters, OK, February 22, 2011, at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 17 days. Glen grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1965. He went on to receive his Associate in Arts from Cameron College in 1967, went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1969, and later received his Bachelor of Science from Midwestern State University in 1974. He married Shirley (McComber) Parks on August 6, 1969, at Wichita Falls, TX. They made their home in Walters and Glen went to work for the Wichita Falls Police Department retiring as a Captain in 2006 after 36 years of faithful service. Through the years Glen also served 6 years with the Oklahoma National Guard; 6 years on the Walters City Council including serving as Mayor; 18 years with the Walters Youth League as coach and president; and also operating the clock and scoreboard for WHS football for 27 years. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Walters. He enjoyed family, friends, traveling, ball games, retirement and "Fords." He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Kenneth, and a son, David Parks. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Don and Lori Parks, Kenny and Trudy Smith all of Yukon, OK; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Kenny Meyer, Glenda and Jason Hunt all of Walters, OK; 15 grandchildren, Lantz, Logan and Lane Parks, Christiana Parks, Destini Heaton, Daci and Sooner Meyer, Camaron Smith, Regan and Blaine Roark, Kyla, Kale, Dara, Jase and Demi Hunt; other relatives and many friends.
