Alan Sherman Calkins was born to Elmer Nixon and Mildred (Wagner) Calkins on September 14, 1945, at the Walters Hospital, Walters, OK and departed this life in Walters on January 21, 2011, at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 7 days. Alan grew up in Cotton County on the family farm northeast of Temple until the age of 9 when the family moved to Walters in 1954. He attended both Temple and Walters Schools. Alan eventually went to work for Civil Service as a stocker at the Ft. Sill Commissary where he worked for 25 years before medically retiring. He loved to travel, visiting New York, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Washington State, California and Nevada. He enjoyed hunting through the years and visiting with friends at the local coffee shops. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Elmo Calkins. Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Hank Grieb of Wichita Falls, TX
