Shena LaRoy Layn was born May 18, 1956, at Duncan, OK, to Elroy and Shirley Cooper and departed this life in Kingfisher, OK on December 23, 2010, at the age of 54 years, 7 months and 5 days. Shena grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1974. She earned a basketball scholarship to play at Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, TX and graduated magna cum laude in 1978. She then earned her master's in education at West Texas State University in Canyon, TX in 1979. In 1980 she served as assistant coach for a women's professional basketball team in Dallas, TX. On June 18, 1983, Shena married Joe Weldon Layn in Walters. Through the years she coached high school basketball and taught high school English in Snyder, Marlow, Walters and Kingfisher. She was named coach of the year in 2003. She was an FCA Leader and served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She was preceded in death by her father, Elroy Cooper in 2006. Survivors include her husband, Joe Layn, of Kingfisher; her son Zachary Layn and daughters Shiloh, Shelby Jo and Shalyn Layn all of Kingfisher; her mother Shirley Cooper of Walters, OK; 3 sisters, Candra Marlett of Walters, Dixie Malm of Albin, WY, and Cheryl Baber of Tulsa, OK; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
