Butch Teakell was born to W.O. and Katherine (Davis) Teakell on September 1, 1942, south of Walters, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK, on December 8, 2010, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 7 days. Butch grew up at Walters, OK, graduating from WHS in 1960 and went on to graduate from Cameron College in 1963. He received his B.S. degree from Central State at Edmond in 1965 and later finished his Masters Degree at Southwestern State College in Weatherford in 1970. He and his high school sweetheart, Nancy Beth Wynn, were married February 16, 1962, at Walters and to the union 2 sons were born. Butch was employed at Southeast Junior High School in Altus from 1965-70, were he taught OK History, Civics and coached football, boys basketball and track. He was employed by Vocational Rehabilitation from September 1, 1970 until his retirement on October 1, 1992. During his employment by Vocational Rehabilitation he was a member of the State Rehabilitation Association and was a lifetime member of the National Rehabilitation Association, serving as President of the State Association in 1985. He and Nancy Owned and Operated a Field Services business for more than 25 years. Butch loved his family and provided support and guidance to all of us. His children brought him great joy and he enjoyed many activities with them. He taught them the importance of high moral values and confidence in themselves. His pass-time was golf, which brought him a lot of pleasure and some frustration. He liked to share his "golf stories" with Nancy. Butch was an avid OU Fan and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He will be greatly missed by all who survive him to include his wife, Nancy Teakell, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Barbara Teakell of Lawton, OK; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma and Jerry Harris of Wichita Falls, TX and Judy and Billy Sandlin of Oklahoma City; 7 grandchildren, Jason, Jayme, Gabe, Clementine, Brian, Harvey and Jordan; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law Paul and Ann Wynn, his sister-in-law Paula Wynn and his oldest son Jeff Teakell.
