George Athel Norman was born to Henry Grady and Virginia Lee (Smart) Norman in Walters, Oklahoma on October 7, 1918 and departed this life in Temple, Oklahoma on October 28, 2010 at the age of 92 years and 21 days. Athel grew up in Walters, OK where he attended school. He married Jessie Rowena Carr on July 20, 1939 in Altus, OK. They moved to California where he worked as a machinist during WW2. They eventually returned to Walters where he owned a gravel truck business before working as a pumper in the oilfield for 20yrs. From 1971 to 1981 he was in the used car business, operating Gate 4 Auto Sales in Lawton. After retirement he enjoyed spending time fishing in the South Texas valley and through the years enjoyed going to the coffee shop in the mornings. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, Otis and Leon "Mug" Norman; and a sister, Edith Hobbs. Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Linda Garrison of Walters; a son, Richard Norman of Walters; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Craig Garrison and Krista of Burkburnett, TX, Britani and Jeff Wludyka of Fayetteville, NC, Kassi and Logan Pulis of Geronimo, OK and Jami and Cody Simpson of Oklahoma City; a great-granddaughter, Londyn Pulis and many other relatives and friends.
