Lola Kathryn Joachim-Estevez

Lola Kathryn "Katie Jo" Joachim-Estevez was born to Ezra Clarence "E.C." and Grossie Rena (Dorsett) Joachim on September 7, 1938, at Ardmore, OK and departed this life at Gore, OK, on May 26, 2010, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 19 days. Katie Jo grew up at Walters, graduating valedictorian in the class of 1956 from WHS. She went on to receive her B.S. in Home Economics from Oklahoma A & M (OSU) where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She married Barry Bennington Bruce in August of 1959 at Walters. They made their home in Oklahoma City and to the union 2 children were born. She later married Doc Tate Nevaquaya in 1973 and they made their home in Oklahoma City and Norman, where she would receive her M.S. in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma in 1982. Through the years Katie worked as an interior decorator and a jewelry designer. She was also very interested and became well versed in the Native American culture. She had served as political liaison for Community Coordinated Care of Oklahoma, was a member of Junior Hospitality Inc. of Oklahoma City, member of the Cotton County Art Council, the Oklahoma Indian Art Association and the Rainbows. She also served on the American Indian Association Advisory Board for Childcare in 1969. Katie was a member of and enjoyed attending several different churches during her life. She eventually married Arnold Estevez in 1996 and the made their home at Gore, OK. He preceded her in death 1998. She was also preceded by her father, E.C. in 2004 and her mother, Grossie in 2008. Katie Jo has been well provided for at Gore Nursing Home for the past 4 years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Brian Slate of Gore, OK; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jana Bruce of Houston, TX; 6 grandchildren, Tia Rivers and husband Toby of Midwest City, OK, Bryson Slate of Moore, OK, Trey Slate of Gore, OK, Behr, Bentley and Bauer Bruce all of Houston, TX; 3 great grandchildren, Ethan Rivers, Brianna Jones and Isabelle Rivers all of Midwest City, OK; 3 stepchildren, Spring Johnson, her husband Doug and son Dylan all of Broken Arrow, OK, Brooke Estevez of Tulsa, OK and Brandi Estevez of Broken Arrow; other relatives and a host of friends.
