Betty Lou (Bean) Newsom was born to James Hugh "Buck" and Grace Lophene (Oller) Bean on January 7, 1933, in rural Temple, OK and departed this life in Wichita Falls, TX, on April 22, 2010, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 15 days. Betty grew up around the Temple area. She married Donald D. Newsom on January 22, 1949, at Henrietta, TX. They made their home in the oilfield of North Texas until settling back in Temple in 1961. She worked at Haggars from 1961 to 1972 and later worked as a teacher's aid at Temple Public Schools for 8 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and loved her church very much. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and being involved in their activities. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Grace Bean. Survivors include her husband, Don, of the home; her son, Leonard Newsom of Perryton, TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Orvil Sturdivant of Temple, OK; 6 grandchildren, Jeremy Ledford and wife Lisa, Ryan Ledford, Sunny Sturdivant all of Temple, Freddie Newsom of Frisco, TX, Jerry Newsom of Perryton, TX, and Korbi Wilson of Denton, TX; 5 great grandchildren, Gavin Ledford, Trevin Ledford, Haley Ledford, Jeffery James and Kelsey James; other relatives and many friends.
