Gene Virgil Cooper was born to Virgil Hill and Myrtle (Phillips) Cooper in Temple, Oklahoma on November 2, 1923 and departed this life in Lawton, OK on March 15, 2010 at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 13 days. Gene grew up in the Temple area and attended the Donley School, east of Temple, OK before attending Temple High. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during the Pacific campaign during WWII. After being released from service he came back home to his wife, Carrie Bernice (Cooper) Cooper whom he wed on July 30, 1942 in Temple, OK, and his son. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Temple. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd "Sonny" Cooper. Survivors include his wife Bernice Cooper of the home, a son and daughter-in-law; Ronnie Cooper and wife Sandra of Duncan, OK, a brother and sister-in-law; H.D. Cooper and wife Mary of Duncan, two grandchildren; Ronda Akers of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Rodney Cooper and wife Melody of Irving, Texas, three great-grandchildren; Courtney, Camey and Josh, a great-great-grandson; Luscious and many other family members and friends.
