Joy Yvonne Bates was born to Denver Lee and Roxie (Mullins) Norman in Temple, Oklahoma on September 27, 1938 and departed this life in Lawton, OK on February 18, 2010 at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 22 days. Joy grew up in Temple, OK and graduated in 1956 from Temple High School. She married Billie Jean Bates in Temple on May 19, 1956. She worked at Haggar Slack Co., Halliburton and the City of Comanche over the years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Temple. She enjoyed to sew, read and to cook. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Joe Dan Norman. Survivors include her husband, Billie J. Bates of the home; a son, Monte Bates of Houna, Louisiana; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherece and Bill Bauman of Walters; a brother Jimmy Norman and wife Leeann of Chaporal, New Mexico; two sisters-in-law, Linda Norman of Lubbock, TX and Shery Jo Norman of Hobbs, NM; a sister, Wanda and Billy Ille of Temple; two grandchildren, Kellie and husband Jimmy Constance of Houston, TX and Greg Bates and wife Melissa of Junction City, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Isabella and James; many other relatives and friends.
