Charlie Alfred Gibson

August 12, 1932 — January 26, 2010

Charlie Alfred "Hoot" Gibson was born to Charles Alfred and Julia Lorene (Davis) Gibson on August 12, 1932, at Ames, OK and departed this life in Temple, OK on January 26, 2010, at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 14 days. Hoot grew up at Ames, OK, before moving to Pryor and eventually to Temple where he graduated from THS in 1952. He then entered the United States Navy during Korea and also served four tours of duty, which included two stat teams, to Vietnam. He married Nadine McClung on August 5, 1956 at Burkburnett, TX. Through his 20 year military career the family made their home at Coronado, CA, the Philippines, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, Millington, TN, Long Beach, MS, then again to Las Vegas and Long Beach before retiring back home to Temple. He stayed in the Reserves for another 10 years during which time he worked at Goodyear for 10 years, and all the while enjoyed farming as well. Hoot enjoyed playing football in high school. He has also enjoyed horses, honey bees, reading Louis L'Amour books, doing leather work, wood work and all kinds of tinkering. He loved his dog Sadie. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, receiving his 50 year pen, and took great pride in his naval career. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Clayton, Waldo and Luther Gibson and 2 sisters, Helen Hern and Reba Josephine Gibson. Survivors include his wife, Nadine, of the home; a son, Chuck Gibson and wife Jana of Elgin, OK; a daughter, Denise McComber and husband Leon of Walters, OK; a brother, Howard Gibson of Arizona; a sister Judy Murray of Tahlequah, OK; 8 grandchildren and spouses, Lauren McComber, Greg and Brandi McComber all of Walters, Stacy and Chris McDonald of Largo, FL, Chas and Kelly Gibson of Apache, OK, Cara Hitz of Dennison, TX, Courtney and Steve Solstad of McKinney, TX, Leah and Bryant Mathews, James and Dora Gibson all of Elgin; 11 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
