Dorothy Ruth Simmons was born to Wilson Tooahnippah and Flora Nora (Watsuah) Simmons on November 1, 1924 in the Emerson Community, west of Walters, OK and passed away in Lawton, OK, on December 28, 2009 at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 27 days. Ruth grew up in the Emerson Community where she has made her home all her life. She enjoyed playing basketball and softball while attending school at Ahpeatone. She was a member of the Native American Church and enjoyed going to Powwow's, doing bead work, sewing, quilting and spending time with her grandkids watching TV and telling stories. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kay Simmons; and two brothers, Roy and Elton Simmons; and a sister, Clara Permansu. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Fred Codynah of Walters; 5 grandchildren and spouses, Donnie and Paulette Wooten of Gerinomo, Bonnie James Farias and Timothy James of Walters, Monte Simmons and Jennifer LeBarre of Walters, Phillip Hart of Walters, Sherry and Michael Pueblo of Walters; 8 great grandchildren and spouses, Mary and William Tosee of Lawton, Donna and Arbin Munchel of Lawton, Shane James, Shauna James, Nathan Pueblo, Adrian Pueblo, Stephanie and Shane Lawrence, Alvina Castro, all of Walters; 7 great-great grandchildren, Alex Calfy, Skylar Lawrence, Shaylee Lawrence, Shane Lee Lawrence, Christopher Love and Abagayle Love all of Walters, Briley Munchel of Lawton and many other relatives and friends.
