Justine Swinford was born to A.H. and Myrtle McArty Swinford on February 20, 1917 in Curtis, Arkansas and departed this life in Duncan, Oklahoma on October 4, 2009 at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 14 days. Justine graduated from Walters High School in 1937 and attended Southeastern State University in Durant, OK, graduating in 1942. She received her Masters degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1956. She began teaching in 1942 in a one room school in Stephens County, OK. In 1952 she moved to Lawton where she was a teacher at Washington and Woodrow Wilson elementary, she taught 37 years before she retired in 1979. She was an avid genealogist and a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Lawton. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Randolph and Oliver Swinford, two sisters; Mary Miller and Willa Swinford and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Survivors include three nieces; Stella Jo Summerlot of Duncan, OK, Barbara and Jim Sourman and Nita Wood all of Lawton, two nephews, Kent and Janice Swinford of Lawton and Michael Lawrence of Oklahoma City, many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.
