Eula Ruth (Young) Bailey was born to Charles Edgar and May Mullins Young on June 12, 1915, at Troy, NM and departed this life in Ardmore, OK, on May 10, 2009, at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 28 days. Ruth grew up in the Temple and Walters communities, graduating from Walters High School. She married John Henry Bailey on October 7, 1935, at Lawton, Oklahoma. Ruth worked as a substitute letter carrier for the Walters post office during the war and eventually began a career as a florist spanning 50 years. In the early days she had the Walters Florist and later owned Lady Bug Flowers and Gifts. For a time she also had a gift shop down town selling various items including dresses and Merle Norman products. She retired from the Lady Bug in December of 1999. Ruth had served as a past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, a Mother Advisor of the Order of Rainbow Girls, was a member of the Rose Unit of the Federated Garden Club, she was an associate of the Lions Club and was a 50 year member of the McDowell Club of Allied Arts. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Walters and later a member of the First Baptist Church in Ardmore, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, on September 6, 1988; a brother, Doyle Young; and 2 grandsons, Greg Tilton and John Ray. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Patricia Lee and Robert J. Andrews of DeLand, Florida and Priscilla Dean and Clayton Fields of Ardmore, OK; 5 grandchildren and their spouses, Debbie and Chris Hudman of Geronimo, Ruth Ann and Blair Harp of Tulsa, OK, Chuck and Amanda Ray of LaConner, WA, Stacy and Dr. Rob Dalton of Orlando, FL, Mike and Kelly Tilton of Gainesville, FL; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
