Loyce Scism Pearson (Grandma Doc) was born to John Adam and Mary Francis (Gilmore) Berry on February 12, 1920, at Sawyer, Oklahoma and departed this life in Lawton, Oklahoma on February 5, 2009, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 24 days. Loyce grew up in the Walters area. She married D. E. Boudreaux in 1937 and to the union 2 daughters, Lena Ruth and Carol, were born and the family traveled the country as D.E. was in the U.S. Navy. She later married Norman "Doc" Scism in 1960 and they enjoyed traveling the World together until his death in 1985. On December 6, 1996, she married Buddy Pearson at the First Presbyterian Church in Walters. They could always be seen together around the town as they were active in their community and church. And she enjoyed preparing Buddy for his regular golf outings and going with him many times. He preceded her in death in December of 2000. She was also preceded by her daughter, Ruth Simmons in 1999, as well as, 3 sisters, Thelma McArthur, Dayle Rael and Lee Willoughby. Loyce was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Walters and the Homesteaders Extension Club. For many years she baked cookies for the Walters Bank and Trust, and also for the Blood Drive donors, worker and volunteers. She was so proud when to become a 7 gallon blood donor. She was also known throughout the world for the 82,000 plus hangers she braided and gave away to family, friends and anyone else she came in contact with. Survivors include a daughter Carol Lowry and husband Jack of Brownwood, TX; a son-in-law, Jack Simmons of Walters; a bother, Luther Berry of Chickasha, OK; 5 grandkids and spouses, Jack Allen Simmons Jr. and Lucinda, Susie Thompson and Jerry, Gary Corbitt and Karen, Davida Corbitt, Bonnie Lanigan and Jim; Adopted grandchildren, Ila and Rick Anderson; great grandchildren, J.J. Lanigan, Charity Thompson, Carrie Ann Belcher, April Lanigan, Jaclyn Sue Simmons, Chelsea Jean Thompson, Chad, Janet, Austin and Lacey Anderson; other relatives and many friends.
