Funeral service at First Baptist Church, Temple, OK, Monday, April 29, 2024 at 10:00 am., Rev. Kevin Simpson officiating with burial at the Temple Cemetery. Viewing at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple on Saturday from 9 am to 8 pm and visitation on Sunday from 2-4 pm.

Alex Houston Seward was born May 31, 1932 in Walters, OK to James Myron and Allena Celeste (Wright) Seward and departed this life on April 24, 2024 at the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 24 days.

Alex grew up west and southwest of Temple, OK, attended rural schools and Temple Public Schools. He drafted into the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean War. Alex then returned to the farm and went to work in the oilfields of west Texas and New Mexico before joining his brother JM in Alaska where he lived from the early 60s to 70s operating heavy equipment in the mining industry. While in Alaska he married Sharon Diane Kyzer on February 14, 1963 and to the union 2 sons, Alex Jr. and Scott were born.

Alex returned to the farm in Cotton County where he raised his boys until moving to Walters around 1977. Through the years Alex returned to Alaska for work numerous times and also worked on many projects here at home as a heavy equipment operator including the Waurika Dam Project, built the pad for the bank’s foundation at Parker Square, and built the pad for phase one of the Howmet facility. He also did custom farming and worked on and off at the sand pits for 30 years. Alex married Deloris Ann (Taylor) Blades on May 30, 1986 in Wichita Falls, adding another son and daughter, Aaron and Karen. They made their home both in town and on the farm where they proudly enjoyed hosting many special events and get togethers through the years.  

He enjoyed fishing, farming, whistling, taking trips to Branson, spending time with his grandbabies, and picking on and pestering people. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Temple.

Alex is preceded in death by his parents, James and Allena Seward; his son, Scott Seward; 4 brothers J.M., Wid, Wade, and Bill; his sister Jessie Smith and two infant siblings.

He is survived by his wife Deloris of the home; his sons Alex Seward Jr. “AJ” and Karina of Wichita Falls, Aaron Blades and Cindy of Temple; daughter Karen Richmond and Johnny of Temple; 14 grandchildren, Christian Rodriguez, Steve Rodriguez, Daniel Castro, Scott Seward, Azael Seward, Karina Castro, Leila Davis, Josh Collins, Libby Whitecotton and Kyle, Jenna Collins, Molley Blades-Blevins and Chase, Dillon Richmond, Kaleigh Morgan and James, Tristan Richmond and Amber; 14 great grandchildren with 4 more on the way; many nieces and nephews, other family and a host of friends.
