Graveside Rite of Committal with Commendation service for Deborah “Debbie” Elledge, 78, Lawton, will be Tuesday, March 25th at 11:00am in Highland Cemetery, Lawton, under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters with Deacon Bob Quinnett officiating.
Mrs. Elledge departed this life Saturday, February 22, 2025, surrounded by her family, at her home in Lawton.
Deborah “Busha” Lee McLean Elledge was born October 20, 1946, in Chicago, IL to Floyd William and Loretta Katherine Palka McLean. Debbie grew up traveling the globe with her parents and four brothers. They lived in Chicago, Germany, Kansas and finally Lawton, Ok. She attended Tomlinson Junior High and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1965. She met the love of her life, Chris Coover Elledge, at Eisenhower. Debbie loved to say he asked her to “move closer, I won’t bite” and her whole world tilted. They were married on August 27, 1967, at Old Post Chapel at Fort Sill. They lived happily ever after for many years together.
Debbie worked alongside Chris and their son Billy at the Lawton Monument Co, until she retired. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Debbie spent her life giving to others. She would light up a room with her big smile and funny personality. She loved supporting her children & grandchildren and always knew how to make them feel better and stronger. Debbie participated in many community projects as a member of the Junior Service League, Savante, and PEO. Debbie was an artist; she helped start the Boulevard of Lights and painted many holiday displays that are still seen all over Comanche County. She adored holidays, threw the best parties and lived her motto “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing” to the fullest extent. Living, giving and providing loving and meaningful moments for all those around her.
Survivors include, her son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Kelly Elledge, Elgin; her daughter and son-in-law, Sam and David Atchley, Lawton; her brother Chris McLean, Texas; three grandchildren: Toni Sumpter & her spouse James, Apache; Cameron Atchley, Lawton; and Coover Elledge, Elgin; five great-grandchildren: Knox, Noah, Abel, Christopher and Iris Sumpter, Apache; her sister-in-law, Peggy Elledge, Arizona; many other relatives, and special friends.
Debbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chris Coover Elledge; her parents, FW & Loretta McLean; her brothers, Butch, Jeffrey and Bruce McLean; and 2 sisters-in-love, Phyllis Grayson and Sue Wigington.
