Funeral Service at First United Methodist Church, Walters, OK on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Brantley Tillery, Rev. Gary Tahmahkera and Rev. Roger Noland officiating with Interment in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Viewing on Sunday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Donald Lee Potter was born to Horace Lee and Wilmuth Lee (Skaggs) Potter on April 14, 1937 in Tuttle, OK and departed this life surrounded by family in Walters, OK on August 2, 2024 at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 19 days.
Don grew up at Tuttle, OK until the 7th grade and then moved to Turpin, OK where he graduated Valedictorian of his class in 1955. He married Doris Joann Caldwell on November 30, 1955 in Tuttle. To this union 4 children were born, Richard, Barbara, Russell and Randall. Don graduated from Oklahoma University while participating in basketball, baseball, and working part time. After College he taught and coached while doing graduate studies during the summers. He received a Master of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University. Don taught math and coached at numerous schools across Oklahoma for 35 years. He and Joann moved back to Walters permanently in 1992.
Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, playing bridge and other games. He was a family man and the perfect example of what a father and husband should be. He raised his family in church and taught them the most important thing in life was to accept Jesus as their savior. He was a faithful member of the Walters First United Methodist Church.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Wilmuth Potter; his siblings, infant brother Richard, Dan Potter, Joe Potter and Gwen Long; and a daughter-in-law, Pam Potter.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Joann Potter of the home; 4 children and spouses, Richard and Beca Potter of Walters, Barbara and Gary Tahmahkera of Cache, OK, Russell Potter of Fort Cobb, OK, Randall and Edwina Potter of Fort Cobb; his sister, Patricia Coale of Grove, OK; his grandchildren, Tyson Potter and Lacey of Walters, Taylor Noland and Ryan of Walters, Olivia Potter of Edmond, OK, Kerry Tahmahkera and Alex of Durango, CO, Kelsey Tahmahkera and Tony of Wichita Falls, TX, Madison Geiger and Seth of Snyder, OK, Chris Potter and Cady of Ft. Cobb, Adam Potter and Jessica of Cache; his great grandkids, Caleb and Sarah, Aksel, Hayden, Harper, Marquise, Malia and Fendi, KG and Koan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Donations can be made to First United Methodist Church or to the Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.
