Donald Simpson, 78, Walters, OK
Funeral Services at First United Methodist Church, Walters, OK on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., nephews Rev. Kevin Simpson and Rev. Kent Simpson officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home with burial in the Walters Cemetery. Viewing will be held Sunday from 1-8:00 pm with Visitation on Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 pm.
Donald Lee Simpson was born to Hubert T. and Frances Ellen (Reece) Simpson on April 23, 1940 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on December 27, 2018 at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 4 days.
Donald grew up south of Walters, graduating from Walters High in 1958. He then joined the Oklahoma National Guard serving with the 45th at Walters from 1958-1964. In June of 1959 he married Lana McClendon and to the union 3 children were born. The family eventually moved to Durant where Donald would complete a Bachelor of Science degree at Southeastern. He worked at production plants for Safeway Foods for several years, moving the family to Denison, TX, Overland, KS and Plano, TX before moving back to Walters in 1974. He was engaged in farming and ranching until his retirement in 2012. While his health allowed, Donald attended Brown Baptist Church south of Walters. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and raising cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Kenneth Simpson, Scottie Simpson and Sharrod Tabbytite; and a great granddaughter, Sutton Simpson.
He is survived by 3 children and their spouses, Greg and Judy Simpson of Blanchard, OK, Jeff and Sandy Simpson of Walters, OK, Jana and Adam Roach of Costa Mesa, CA; a brother, Tom Simpson and wife Gail of Wichita Falls, TX; 2 sisters, Melba Foster and husband Chuck of Denver, CO and Brenda Tabbytite of Tulsa, OK; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Andrew Simpson and Emily of Durant, OK, Matthew Simpson and Allyson of Caney, KS, Stesha Kerr and Dane of Walters, Amanda Simpson of Walters, Jeremiah Perry and Arika of Tulsa, Sarah Simpson of Norman, Jeff D. Simpson and Chelsey of Oklahoma City, Tony Simpson and Jessica of Blanchard, Paul Foster and Shae of Yorba Linda, CA, Amanda Zeken and Chet of Las Vegas, NV; 10 great children; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
