Dorotha R. Bonner was born to Jim and Tessie Stover on September 14, 1932 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Pauls Valley, OK on April 5, 2024 at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 22 days.
Dorotha grew up west of Walters between the communities of Emerson and Ahpeatone. She attended Ahpeatone School, where she lettered as forward in basketball 4 years and graduated in 1950. She went on to attend Cameron University 2 years and then Midwestern University graduating with a BS in Secretarial Science and Secondary Education.
Dorotha married Leslie Bonner March 17, 1956 at Emerson Baptist Church. To the union a daughter, Bretta was born. She worked 3 years at Fort Sill as a Cold-Type Composing Machine Operator. She received a $35 award for inventing a tape dispenser for the Cold Typing Composing Machine. She then served as the Secretary for Jackson Elementary School for 22 years, was the PTA President for 2 years, and was a Typing Instructor at Great Plains Vo-tech for 31 years. She also farmed 160 acres and raised cattle since 1994.
Dorotha was baptized in 1950 becoming a member of Emerson Baptist Church west of Walters. She later became an active member of Cameron Baptist Church and taught Kindergarten Sunday School class for 39 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Bonner, her grandson, Justin Poston, and her sister, Rosella Lavin.
Survivors include daughter, Bretta Poston and son-in-law Royce Poston of Lexington, OK; a granddaughter, Breana Worley and husband Ryan of Blanchard, OK; her great grandchildren, Waylin Ray Worley and Hope Gracelynn Worley of Blanchard; brother, Jimmy Ray Stover of Corpus Christi, TX; her nieces and nephews, Lagina Williams, Mitzi Wooding, Wes. Jr. Lavin, Ken Lavin and Jennifer Gomes, and many friends.
