Dorothy Marie (Nelson) Solomon McNabb Peterson was born to James Elbert and Martha Ellen (Woodall) Nelson on February 10, 1934 southeast of Chattanooga, OK and departed this life in Tulsa, OK on December 17, 2023 at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 7 days.
Dorothy grew up and lived most of her live west and north of Walters. She attended Cotton County rural grade schools and then graduating from GHS in 1951. She met John Solomon on a blind date and they married on August 16, 1950 in Lawton, OK. They made their home northwest of Walters where they raised 2 biological daughters, Cerita Miller of Linn Valley, KS and Sherry (Clint) Hooper of Georgetown, TX, as well as grandson, Jim (Stacey) Burk, now deceased and granddaughter, Rebecca (George) Johnson of Walters, and Sara (Bill) Crow who came to live with the family at age 16, making the family complete along with 4 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. John preceded her in death on January 28, 2004. They had been married 53 years.
Dorothy has lived a life devoted to her family and her God. She has served faithfully in her churches and on the mission field around the world. In 2005, while on mission with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief following hurricane Katrina, she met and later married Kenneth McNabb on February 26, 2006 at Cookietown, OK, making their home at Cyril and Geronimo. To this union she gained 3 more daughters, Sandra Cook, Nancy Shodeen and Kathy Johns. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2019.
Dorothy married Andrew Edward “Ed” Peterson on April 16, 2022 in Bixby, OK. They met at Church and she invited him over to practice the piano and violin together. The rest was history! Together they enjoyed trips to Branson and to Lake Beaver in Arkansas, going to Gaither Concerts, playing music, and singing together. Ed taught her to enjoy watching football and baseball. They attended church at Morada where he played the Violin and she helped start the Ladies Bible Study. They were known to match with their clothing and brought a joyful spirit to the Morada community. They shared a lot of love and laughter in 20 months. He said she also loved hearing her daughters giggle. To this union she gained a son Johnny (Michelle) Peterson of Owasso, OK; a daughter, Allison (Kevin) Trent of Broken Arrow; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Dorothy has served her Lord faithfully, both at home and abroad, in ways too numerous to mention. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, cross stitch, painting and playing the piano.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 husbands, John and Kenneth; grandson, Jim Burk; a great-great granddaughter, Alexis Muniz; and her sister, May Helen Mallow.
