Funeral Services at Western Hills Church of Christ in Lawton, OK, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, with interment at 1:00 p.m. in the Walters Cemetery. Harley Davidson officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

Douglas Ray Scherler was born to Marvin Ray and Trecyl June (Daugherty) Scherler on October 18, 1952, in Frederick, OK, and passed away at his home in rural Walters, OK, on March 4, 2025, at the age of 72.

Doug grew up west of Walters and attended Ahpeatone School through the fifth grade before graduating from Walters High School in 1970. He then pursued further education at Oklahoma State and Cameron University. From a young age, Doug was a farmer and rancher at heart. As soon as he could see over the tractor wheel (perhaps even a little before), he was in the fields, plowing and planting wheat alongside his father, Marvin. His dedication to Scherler Farms remained unwavering, and he continued working the land until his final day.

On September 30, 1997, Doug married Michelle Dixie Kosechata in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and together they made their home west of Walters. He was a devoted member of Western Hills Church of Christ in Lawton, where his faith was evident in the way he loved and cared for those around him. His family was his world, and he made sure they knew it, ending every conversation with an “I love you.”

His sense of humor was unmatched; if Doug teased you, it meant he liked you. His quick wit and unapologetic honesty made him truly one of a kind - a firecracker of a personality that could light up any room. In his younger years, he enjoyed stock car racing and served as a page for the state senate. In later years, he took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard and was loyal to one brand of truck - it had to be a red Chevy.

Doug’s legacy lives on through the land he worked, the family he cherished, and the countless memories he created with those lucky enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Scherler in 2014; his sister, June Cromwell; and nephew, Cade Cromwell.

Survivors include his mother, Trecyl Scherler of Walters; his wife, Michelle Scherler of the home; 4 children, Jeremy Scherler and Joey of Walters, Holly McKinney and Clay of Chickasha, OK, Taylor Scherler and Donalynn of Walters, and Violet Michelle Scherler; his brother, Stan Scherler and Kim of Walters; his brother-in-law, Roger Cromwell of Walters; his aunt, Beth Barnhart of Bellingham, WA; 7 grandchildren, Jorja and Jewel Scherler, Logan, Keaton and Cooper McKinney, Jamison and Annamarie Scherler; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends who all loved him deeply.
