Emma Jean (Palmer) Copass was born to Athel Monroe and Lessie Leona (King) Palmer on August 24, 1932 in Wright City, OK and departed this life in Walters, OK April 1, 2024 at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 8 days.
Jean grew up in the Wright City area with the family moving from farm to farm. She married Dean Grover Copass on September 9, 1948 in Pauls Valley, OK. To this union 5 children were born, Janet, Gary, Keith, Archie, Marla and in later years raised their granddaughter Candra Leeann. The family made their home at Erin Springs but followed the oilfield until settling at Walters, OK in 1960. Starting in 1960 she helped her husband with Copass Roofing in Walters. In the mid 1960’s they operated Dean and Jean’s Café. Jean worked for Haggar Slacks Co. in Temple and with a layoff in the late 1970’s she attended cosmetology school. She worked as a Cosmetology Instructor for Aladdin’s Beauty College and also had her own shop called Cottage of Hairstyling at her home.
Jean was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed going to the lake, camping and she and Dean served as camp host at Waurika Lake for a summer. The couple also enjoyed bus trips. In her later years she enjoyed doing dry-chem painting, planting flowers in pots on her porch, going out to eat, and loved being fussed over.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean, in 2005; her son, Gary, in 2021; and 8 siblings, Lloyd Palmer, Bill Palmer, Marie Hector, Jack Palmer, Ruby Jones, Donna Cox, Albert Palmer and Dessie Webb.
Survivors include 5 children and spouses, Janet Huckabay and Gary of Thompson Station, TN, daughter-in-law Mitzi Copass of Walters, Keith Copass and Sherrie of Walters, Archie Copass of Bixby, OK, Marla Richardson and Dennis of Waurika, Candi Bridges and Trace of Bixby; 15 grandchildren, Katie Copass, Dr. Chad Huckabay, Michael Copass, Matt Huckabay, Helen Lewis, Jason Copass, David Gregston, Ashley Daughriety, Heather Turner, Chandra Garrison, Holly Garcia, Dennison Richardson, Dr. Shana Freeman, Brandon Copass and Kylie Richardson; 39 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews, and an abundance of friends.
