On December 7, 1947, six years after Pearl Harbor, Iva Nell “Ivy” Wetzel, was born in Duncan, OK, to Ivan and Oneda Laverne (Howard) Thompkins. Having lived the majority of her life in Kingfisher, OK, Ivy departed this life in Woodward, OK, on February 10, 2025.
Ivy grew up in Walters, OK, and married her high school sweetheart, Ronald W. Wetzel, on June 15, 1968, two years after graduating from Walters High School. The couple moved to Mobile, AL, while Ron was serving in the Army and soon settled in Kingfisher, OK, with their two sons, Russell and Richard. Ivy was a much loved elementary school teacher and piano teacher. She taught early child development classes at the local community college and volunteered many hours playing organ and piano for various community churches and events. She was a fan of all things Disney and Harry Potter. At the time of her death, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Kingfisher.
She is survived by her son Russell Wetzel, his wife Celeste, and their two children Roy and Cordelia. She is survived by her son Richard Wetzel, his wife Leigh, and their two children Anna and Katie. She is survived by her brother Donald J. Tompkins of Lawton, OK.
Her viewing will be on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 9:00am to 12:30pm at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, OK. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm in the chapel due to forecasted weather.
