Janie Virginia (Shaw) Sheppard was born to Ernest and Cleveland Lucy (Suttle) Shaw on February 15, 1928, west of Temple, OK and departed this life at her home in Walters, OK on July 19, 2019 at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Janie grew up on the Shaw homeplace west of Temple, graduating from Temple High School in 1946. She then attended Cameron College for 2 years. Prior to marriage she worked at Armstrong’s variety store for a time before going to work at the courthouse in the early 1950’s. She married Jesse Howard Sheppard on February 14, 1953 at First Baptist Church in Walters. They made their home on the Shaw place for 4 years before moving to Walters. She put 40 years in at the courthouse which included time in the Court Clerk’s office and later the Cotton Co. Treasurers office, eventually serving as County Treasurer. She retired in the late 1980’s only to being a 20- year career working for her daughter at the Cotton County Abstract Office.
Janie was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Walters prior to worshiping at Union Valley Baptist Church in Cookietown for the past 10 years. She enjoyed playing Bingo, drinking her coffee outside and had a green thumb. Janie and Jesse enjoyed many trips to their lake home at Texoma over the past 35 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Cleveland Shaw; her husband, Jesse Sheppard in 2006; her brother, Lester Shaw; and her sister, Mildred Hardin.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Marion Robinson of Randlett, OK; 4 grandchildren and spouses, Jessica and Charles Thompson, Donald and April Hill, all of Walters, Tina Brown of Randlett, Richard and Paula Robinson of Burkburnett, TX; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sister, Ernestine Dilks of Guthrie, OK; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
