Funeral Services at First Baptist Church, Walters, OK on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., Coach Faron Griffin officiating. Burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

John Franklin Robinson was born to John Franklin and Lana Sue (Green) Robinson on June 19, 1965 in Canadian, TX and departed this life in Lawton, OK on December 21, 2024 at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 2 days.

John grew up in Texas, California, Hollis, OK and a few places in between. He graduated from Hollis High School in 1983, then received his bachelor's and later master's degree from Southwestern in Weatherford, OK, where he was known as "Bear." 

Coach Robinson, otherwise known as “Coach Rob Dog,” began coaching and teaching at Walters Public Schools in the fall of 1992. He assisted in football and basketball, while at some point head coaching girls basketball, boys and girls track and cross country. He taught History and World Geography, Drivers Ed, led the 21st Century Program, was in-charge of game concessions for many years and drove a route bus. After 28 years with WHS he served as an assistant coach in Burkburnett before retiring in the spring of 2022.

John loved coaching and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed Route 44 drinks, snow cones and taking his dog for a ride, but his favorite thing may have been “telling Coach Robinson stories.”

He was preceded in death by his father, John Robinson; his mother, Lana Watkins; and a grandchild, Hevinley Angell Chambers. 

John is survived by 2 children, Shelby Lane Chambers and husband David of Blanchard, OK, and Eli Marshal Robinson of Walters; his siblings, Jeff Robinson and Betty Whitson of Walters, Janay Ogston and Charles of Boise City, OK, Craig Robinson and Lyndsey of Hollis, OK, and Alan Robinson of Lubbock, TX; his step-mom, Ann Robinson of Hollis; 9 grandchildren, Maverick Cooke, Kingston Chambers, Madoxx Chambers, Legend Chambers, Tytan Forbes, Gunner Chambers, Payton Forbes, Bentlyee Chambers and Divyne Chambers; other relatives and a host of friends.
