Funeral Services at First Baptist Church, Walters, OK, Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Ray Garcia officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation on Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, with viewing on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Johnny Thomas Vannoy was born to John Thomas and Oma Louise (Anderson) Vannoy on October 11, 1938 in Lyons, KS and departed this life in Duncan, OK on December 15, 2024 at the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 4 days.
Johnny grew up near Keystone Lake, an area now under water, and then the family moved to Oakridge, TN. There he joined the army at age 16, serving in the Korean War. It was on leave that he met Mary Kathrine Bowen, sitting on a fence in Hugo, OK. He was soon looking to be discharged and they married on October 22, 1961 in Sawyer, OK. To the union 2 children were born. They made their home in Midwest City where he was working for Brown & Root, then on to Houston where he worked on the construction of the Astrodome. They moved from there to Walters near her family and then settled in the surrounding Lawton area where he owned and operated V&S Construction for many years, retiring in 2015.
Johnny enjoyed attending worship services at The Impact Center in Lawton for several years. He loved God and his babies, the kids, the grands, and great grands. He enjoyed fishing, casinos and doing word search.
He was preceded by his love, Mary Vannoy; his parents, John T. Vannoy and Oma L. Eaton; 3 sisters, Jo Helen, Georgia, and Mary; and 3 brothers, Bill, Lee, and Sammie Ray.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Thomas Vannoy and Leah of Pawnee, OK; a daughter, Deborah Louise “Debbie” Vannoy of Duncan, OK; a brother-in-law, Jim Holsapple; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Sean and Cassandra Vannoy, Sarah Vannoy, Dalton Gardipe, Serena Vannoy, Sammy Vannoy Jr., Clarissa Allen, Shelby and Kyly Wilkins, and Nikkola Lowe; 7 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
