Judith Meraline “Judy” (Thomas) Quickle was born to Lester Laviel and Florene Meraline “Meral” (Costen) Thomas on September 24, 1934, 13 miles west of Walters, OK and departed this life in Oklahoma City, OK on November 5, 2022 at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 12 days.
Judy grew up in the Ahpeatone Community west of Walters, graduating from Ahpeatone High School in 1951. She then attended MSU in Wichita Falls for her bachelor degree and later received a masters from Southwestern in Weatherford, OK.
Judy married Bobby Wayne Quickle on June 6, 1959 at Emerson Baptist Church west of Walters. They made their home in Walters for a time before moving to Wichita Falls where she taught 3 years at Hirschi High School. They soon moved to Lawton, OK and she taught at Lawton High, eventually moving to Cyril, OK, teaching at Cement. She ended her teaching career at Caddo Kiowa Technology Center at Ft. Cobb. Upon retiring, she and Bob made their home at Walters in 1992.
She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for the past 30 years, serving as treasurer, Sunday School teacher and was in the choir. She enjoyed reading, was a great cook, always had candy in the bowl and loved her dog, Sparky. She and Bob enjoyed trips to Red River, NM for 15 years, as well as many trips to Branson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Meral Thomas, and her sister, Glenda Garison.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Quickle of the home; her sister-in-law, Betty Jo Buckwald and Rudolph of Richardson, TX; several nieces and nephews, Greg and Shanci Garison, Brad and Lindsey Garison, Dawn Brown, Allen Quickle, Dewey Quickle, Darek Quickle, Daniel Quickle, DeLayna Wilkerson, Debbie Redle, Trip Buckwald, Max Buckwald, Jeff Buckwald and Tammy Muirhead; great nieces and nephews, Conner and Emily Garison (and son Beckett), Abby Garison, Cody Garison, Aubrey and Nick Nance(and kids Mrie, Ryker, Boden and Noah); and many beloved Quickle great nieces and nephews.
