Deloris June (Sanders) Bates was born to Wayne Franklin and Opal Irene (Jones) Sanders south of Walters, OK on June 24, 1936 and departed this life in Walters on October 3, 2021 at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 9 days.
June grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1955. She married Christopher Cornelius “C.C.” Bates on September 18, 1955 in Walters and to the union 3 children were born. They moved all over West Texas with his job and finally settled in Midland for 18 years and eventually on to Alvin, TX. Upon his retirement they returned to Walters in 1991.
June was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Walters. She enjoyed sewing when the kids were young, and did crochet and needlepoint as well. She also enjoyed playing cards, fishing and camping at the lake. She loved time with her grandkids and great grands.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C.C. Bates in 1993; and her brothers, Don and Dale Sanders.
Survivors include 2 sons, Chris Bates and wife Patti of Walters, Tim Bates and Donna of Willis, TX; a daughter, Susie Hughes of Comanche, OK; 5 grandchildren and spouses, Roger and Angela Bates of Temple, OK, Randy Bates of Duncan, OK, Brenda Fontenot of Walters, Daniel and Sophie Cordova of Bertram, TX, Michael and Misty Cordova also of Bertram; 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter on the way.
