Katherine Venable was born to Jesse and Effie (Watson) Hill of Manitou, Oklahoma on September 3, 1921 and departed this life in Missouri City, Texas on March 6, 2022 at the age of 100 years, 6 months and 3 days.

Katherine was born in Manitou, Oklahoma. She was forced to leave school and work in the fields while in the 3rd grade in order to help support the family. The family later moved to Temple, Oklahoma where she married George Venable on May 13, 1940 in Temple.

Katherine was very active in the community and her church. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years; volunteered at Temple Manor Nursing Home; Sponsor to Food for the Hungry for over 50 years; raised money to establish a park for the community; instrumental in establishing the Head Start Program.

The following was provided by Karen Bone Graham.
“Katherine and I started the Head Start program in 1972. She was the lead teacher and was excellent with the children and the parents! She continued as Director of the program at the Temple Methodist Church when I left in 1978. She made up for a lack of formal education with her amazing ability to relate graciously to people of all ages and backgrounds. She worked tirelessly with never a complaint. Katherine was an inspiration to many, including me. A life well lived!”

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; Sisters – Gertrude (Hill) Tisdale, Elizabeth (Hill) Schuler, Willie May (Hill) Simms, Belle (Hill) Kidd and Della Mae (Hill) West. Brothers – Johnny Hill, Jesse Hill, “Jiggs” Hill.

Survivors include 4 children, Shirley Jean Venable, Ponca City, Ok, Opel (Venable) Goff, Missouri City, TX, George (Rojean) Venable, Ponca City, Ok, Maryetta (Eugene) Harper, Westerville, Oh; 5 grandchildren, Penny Bannister, Aeeron Venable, Michelle Harper, Kelli Goff and Joshua Mitchell; 5 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
