Leona O. (Ferguson) McComber was born to Albert Lee and Alma Mae (Morris) Ferguson on February 28, 1927 in the Deese Community northwest of Ardmore, OK and departed this life in Temple, OK on February 3, 2019 at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 6 days.
Leona grew up in the Deese Community of Carter County where she attended school. She married Preston B. McComber on November 27, 1944 at Ardmore and to the union 4 children where born. They made their home in Carter County before moving to Walters in 1957. She worked a Henderson’s Laundry and then worked many years for Haggar at Temple. She and Preston then operated Fun Fever in Walters for a time and then she helped Shirley at Broadway Daycare.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with her kids and grandkids, and watching their sports. For many years she fed her family every Sunday. She played the piano in church for many years and even played at the nursing home while residing there. She could also play the guitar. After Preston’s passing, Leona married Aaron Rash in 1999 and they enjoyed several years together playing dominos and watching TV.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Preston McComber in 1997; her grandson, David Parks; and her son-in-law, Glen Smith.
Survivors include 2 sons, Leon McComber and Denise of Walters, Kent McComber and Connie of Norman, OK; 2 daughters, Shirley Smith of Walters, Hazel Petty and Matt Waibel of Enid; a brother-in-law, Mike M. McComber and Velda of Ardmore, OK; a sister-in-law, Evaline Seedig and Troy of Ardmore; 11 grandchildren, Gary Parks, Greg McComber, Stacy McDonald, Debbie Meyer, Kenny Smith, Billy Petty, Ryan McComber, Glenda Hunt, Ronnie Petty, Lauren McComber and Amanda Beloncik; 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
