Memorial Services at First United Methodist Church, Walters, OK, Thursday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Brantley Tillery officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Inurnment will be held at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK, that same afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
Date to be announced for a memorial service in Ohio at a later date.
Mark Steven “Steve” Burns was born to Norman Dwight and Janice Marie (Stoudinger) Burns on June 17, 1956 at Bowling Green, OH and departed this life in Lawton, OK on December 22, 2018 at the age of 62 years, 6 months and 5 days.
Steve grew up at Wayne, OH attending Elmwood Schools. He married Sandra Erbskorn on May 11, 1974 and to the union 3 children were born. Steve entered the U.S. Army on May 12, 1975 and retired with 20 years and 6 months of service on December 31, 1995 settling in Southwest Oklahoma. He then worked for BTR in Frederick, OK from 1996 to 2000. He married Robin Beare on May 6, 2000 and they made their home in Walters. From 2002-12 he worked as a farm hand for John Cunningham and then for Phil Norman from 2013-17.
Steve was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Walters and did church maintenance in 2016-17. He enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with family and friends, and loved his grandkids. He also enjoyed the fellowship of Men’s Breakfast each month.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Janice and Norman Burns; and his in-laws, Zola and Robert Erbskorn.
Survivors include 2 sons, Mark Burns II of Delaware, OH and Kenny Burns and fiancée Madison Layne of Lawton, OK; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Marcus Webb of Lawton; grandkids, Nathan Webb and Brody Webb of Lawton, Isaac Pierce and Autumn Pierce of Walters; 2 brothers, Marshall Burns and wife Jane of Fostoria, OH, Matt Burns and wife Violet of Brunswick, OH; a sister, Maralee Burns-Noone of Wayne, OH; a step-daughter, Crystal Hightower and husband Bryan of Walters; other relatives and friends.
