Interment in the Fairview Cemetery, Randlett, OK, under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple, OK. Peggy Maureen (McCluskey) Darter was born to Joseph Mahal and Azzie Olivia (Moore) McCluskey on December 16, 1930 at Randlett, OK and departed this life in Wichita Falls, TX on April 28, 2019 at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Peggy grew up east of Randlett attending Riverland School until the family moved to Walters, and eventually on to Temple where she graduated from THS in 1949.
She married Reeford Ray Darter on January 29, 1950 at Randlett. They made their home and farmed at Byers, TX, for the first two years then moved back to the Taylor Community of Cotton County. After many years on the farm they moved to Temple in 2005.
Peggy was crafty and artistic. She loved painting, cooking, baking, gardening and floral arranging. They ran a gas station and restaurant at Randlett and she owned a bakery, worked at a flower shop and worked at Pier 1, all in Wichita Falls. She also owned a craft shop in Burkburnett called Gifts and Things, and lastly ran a bed and breakfast from her home in the country. She and Reeford had been members at the First Baptist Church in Randlett and Burkburnett and later moved their letters back to First Baptist Church in Temple. Peggy had served her Lord faithfully for many many years as a Sunday school teacher, GA leader, did mission work and served on the funeral dinner committee. She was well known for her pies.
She was preceded in death her parents; her husband, Reeford in 2013; and 3 brothers, Melvin, Glen and Joe Ray McCluskey.
Survivors include 2 sons, Joe Mac Darter of Randlett, OK and David Kent Darter and wife Robin of Wichita Falls, TX; her daughter, Rebecca Rae Zielke and husband Russ of Balko, OK; 8 grandchildren, Bret Darter, Kelle Bush, Joe Ryan Darter, Melissa Hatcher, Carrie Darter, Sarah Underdown, Matthew Zielke and Hannah Woods; 17 great grandchildren; 8 nephews, 1 niece, other relatives and friends.
