Sarah Ann “Sally” Eckhardt was born to Perry Alonzo and Lora Bernice (Voegelein) Campbell on September 5, 1947 in Duncan, OK and departed this life in Abilene, TX on August 11, 2024 at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 6 days.
Sally grew up south of Temple, OK, graduating from THS in 1965. She went on to complete a bachelor degree from Oklahoma State University in 1969. While in College she married James William Eckhardt in 1968 at Temple. To this union a son, Perry William, was born. Upon graduating from OSU, the couple moved to his hometown of Glen Ellyn, IL where she began working at the local library. She later moved to Seneca, IL and then Florida before returning to Temple in 1981.
Sally began working as a librarian at the Lawton Public Library and then started keeping books for Farmers Elevator in Temple in the mid 1980’s, serving as manager before its close. She then kept books at Willow Park Health Care Center in Lawton and later did bookkeeping for the Wichita Falls Country Club, retiring in her mid to late 60s.
Sally was an active, multi-generational member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, curated the Church Library, and coordinated funeral dinners. She enjoyed crocheting heirloom pieces, completing puzzles, playing the piano, cutting grass with her zero-turn mower, and visiting with friends. She loved keeping up with her family’s activities, and relished cooking and baking. She was a passionate fan of OSU Sports.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Lora Campbell; and her brothers, David Campbell and Dale Campbell.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Perry Eckhardt and Christie of Tuscola, TX; 2 grandchildren, Campbell Eckhardt of Gainesville, FL and Dessie Ann Eckhardt of Tuscola; her sister-in-law, Jolene Campbell of Cockeysville, MD; 4 nieces and nephews, Cheryl Loar and Christopher of Baton Rouge, LA, David Campbell Jr. and Jamey of Fort Townsend, WA, Scott Campbell and Jenni of Lovettsville, VA, and Stephanie Becker of Laurel, MD; her beloved great nieces and nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
