Shirley Hoodenpyle

Shirley Jane Hoodenpyle was born to James and Thelma (Davis) Garrison on April 25, 1939 in St. Elmo, IL and departed this life in Marlow, OK on March 28, 2022 at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 3 days.

Shirley grew up in the St. Elmo, IL area. After high school she attended beauty school and that’s when she met Ray Harold Hoodenpyle, who was serving in the Air Force, at a stop light in Illinois. They married on June 14, 1963 in Rantoul, IL and to the union a son, Zac, was born. Ray was stationed several places and the family ended up in Austin, TX. Upon his discharge from the Air Force they moved to Denver, CO for a time and eventually moved the Beaver Creek area northeast of Walters in the late 1960’s or early 70’s. They moved to town around 1981 and Shirley opened her shop, House of Hair Fashion. She later did hair with Donna Chemah until retiring around 2015.

She loved her family and enjoyed traveling the country with Ray and Zac. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting, raising a garden and planting flowers. She loved her job and her customers, and loved to talk and visit. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Walters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 sisters, Carolee Williams and Jackie Scoles.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Hoodenpyle; her son and daughter-in-law, Zac and Sabrina Hoodenpyle of Walters; her brother, James “Jim” Garrison and Janice of St. Elmo, IL; her sister-in-law, Judy Hoodenpyle of Walters; 5 grandchildren, Joelynn, Jessie, Zane, Lily and Lana; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
