Funeral Services at Hulen United Methodist Church, Hulen, OK on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Brantley Tillery officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery, Walters, OK. Visitation on Sunday evening from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

Shirley Joann Bizzell Martens was born to Harry and Winnie (Davis) Bizzell on July 8, 1935 in Walters, OK and departed this life in her home on January 2, 2025 at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 25 days.

Shirley started school in a small country school north of Temple, OK before the family moved south of Temple. She graduated from Temple High School in 1953. On July 12, 1953 she married Ralph Martens in her parent’s home. They started their life together in Hasting, OK. They moved northeast of Walters in 1971 where they remained the rest of their lives.

Shirley was the secretary at the Walters United Methodist Church for 35 years, working with 13 different pastors during that time. Shirley was quite proud to have been the chairperson of the highly successful annual Walters Methodist Hamburger Supper which she coordinated for 20 years. Working hard to obtain food donations and scheduling volunteers to work on the day of the big event. She was a member of the Walters and Hulen United Methodist Churches.

Shirley is survived by her children Ernie (Judy) Martens of Sallisaw, OK and Tammy (Robert) Hartman of Walters, OK. Grandchildren Holly (George] Bormann, Tucker (Erika) Martens, Brian (Tiffany) Scott and Dana (Jason) Redden, along with 10 great grandchildren. She was also blessed with other extended family and many dear friends. 

She was preceded in death and greeted in heaven by husband, Ralph, her parents, four siblings Joyce, Ralph, Donnie and Ernie and son-in-law Richard Scott.
