Funeral services for Tommy William Bussey (Tom-Tom) will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Indiahoma School Auditorium with Kirk Givens Officiating, obituary by Brian DeMarcus and remarks by Dexter Matlock. Burial will follow at the Bussey Family Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters.
Tommy was born on May 13, 1940, in Snyder, Oklahoma to Willis and Winifred (Woodward) Bussey. Tommy passed away April 1, 2024 at his daughter's home surrounded by his loving family. He graduated from Snyder Public School in 1959.
Tommy married Bobbie Baker on January 19, 1959, in Anadarko, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters Lesa and Carrie who were the sunshine of his soul. Tommy’s family was the love of his life and he was theirs.
Tommy worked as a custom wheat harvester for over 54 years. During the winter months, he worked in construction. Tommy was a certified welder and ironworker. He was a welder for Brown and Root Construction and helped build the Goodyear Plant, Cameron University dorms, and the Missile Silo in Cache. He ran a dozer when the New 62 Highway was constructed, worked at the Comanche County Western District, and the Wildlife refuge. Tommy’s favorite things were welding, building truck beds, combine trailers, cattle lots and barns. The project he was the most proud of was building Chase’s barn. Tommy served on the Indiahoma Volunteer Fire Department and helped build the first barn for the fire department. He was a supporter of the 4-H and FFA organizations. Tommy was a Christian and attended the Indiahoma Church of Christ.
Tommy loved farming and raising cattle. He enjoyed going to bull sales with Lesa, watching OU football games with Carrie and Trace, watching cartoons with Landree, and combine rides with Lauren. The highlight of his day was seeing his great grand kids. Tommy loved life and people. He never met a stranger. Tommy always wanted to work and help his family, friends, neighbors, and anyone in need.
Tommy is survived by his wife Bobbie, daughters Lesa and her husband Bob Lafferty, Carrie and her husband Preston Thomason. Grandchildren Chase Bussey Lafferty, Lauren Lafferty, Trace Bussey Thomason, Landree Thomson and “Bonus” grandson Kyle Carothers. Great Grandchildren Dallyn and Dax Bussey Matlock and Cierra Lafferty. A sister Dixie Hill, brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Barbara Baker. Lifelong friend Joe Harrell, the best neighbors Bill and Betty Bigbow, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a special cousin Gene Smith, and his best buddy Fagen Morris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Tommy’s memory to the Indiahoma Volunteer Fire Department, 26977 NW Mountain View Rd, Indiahoma, OK 73552, or those affected by the recent wildfires in west Texas and Oklahoma.
