Funeral Services at Corum Assembly of God, Corum, OK, Monday, October 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Billy Bowen and Rev. John Johnson officiating with burial at Fairlawn Cemetery, Comanche, OK under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Visitation on Sunday, Oct. 17 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Hart-Wyatt Chapel.

Zelma Gertrude (Pope) Kirkpatrick Dowdy was born to Trammel Clayton and Sara Cornelius (Martindale) Pope on November 1, 1926 in rural Thackerville, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on October 13, 2021 at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Zelma started life at Thackerville and at age 5 and her family moved on to the Vernon, TX area. She married John Wilson Kirkpatrick on September 10, 1945 at Altus, OK and they continued living in Vernon until moving to Comanche, OK in the mid 1960’s. To the union 5 children were born. John preceded her in death on December 12, 1977. She later married Hubert Charles “Herb” Dowdy on May 12, 1980 in Wichita Falls, TX, making their home in Comanche until moving to the Waurika Lake.

Herb preceded her in death on March 28, 2006. She was also preceded by her parents; 4 brothers, Clayton Pope, Autry Pope, Kenneth Pope and infant brother, Frederick Pope; 5 sisters, Pansy Barnes Edgeworth, Ada Mae Grant, Naomi Lewis, Evelyn Pyle and Frances Shores; a grandson, Frank; and a great grandson, Hayden.

Zelma was a longtime member of Corum Assembly. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening, cooking, and playing cards and games in general. She loved time spent with family.

Survivors include 5 children and spouses, Brenda Ardoin and Ron of Iowa, LA, Barbara Morgan and Jerry of Fate, TX, Ronald G. Kirkpatrick and Cindy of Walters, OK, Sharon Trotter-Austin of Walters; and Jerry Kirkpatrick of Temple, OK; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Clayton, Kristi, Anisa, Ronnie, Brandy, Sarah and Michael; 22 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; her longtime friend and birthday buddy, Lois Gilliam; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
